Bio


SALV is an Australian musician, best known as the frontman of The Bitter Grins & drummer of The Morning Night. His forthcoming album was recorded in Burbank, Los Angeles. He recently played drums on Marley Wynn's current studio album.

Salv grew up in Thornlie, Western Australia. His parents were immigrants from Italy & Peru.

He loved 50's rock & roll, Opera & Latin music his parents would play on vinyl or cassettes throughout his childhood. The 90's onslaught of grunge & alternative rock heavily influenced him as a teenager. Following his high school years at Ursula Frayne, Victoria Park, he studied music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Mount Lawley, achieving a Diploma of Music in Commercial Music.

Salv has a vast range of musical influences & heroes but names The Beatles, The Who & Nirvana as his biggest. He regards Dave Faulkner (Hoodoo Gurus) as his favourite songwriter, The Who as his favourite band & Big Star's #1 Record as his favourite album.

As a drummer he's influenced by Gene Krupa, Keith Moon, John Bonham & Dave Grohl. He credits Pete Townshend, Keith Richards, Billie Joe Armstrong & Kurt Cobain as the main influences on his guitar playing.

Since graduating from WAAPA he played drums for various cover bands in Perth & around WA. He started writing songs in 2004 & took up residence in Fremantle absorbing the live music scene while drumming for local original groups. He met Danni Ammon in 2007 which led to him becoming the drummer for The Blue Finish. Her solo EP 'Everyword' was recorded in 2009 with Salv playing drums, lead guitar & singing backing vocals.

He joined Ryan Webb & The Method in 2010 while recording home demos in Hamilton Hill. In 2012 he met Adrian Hoffmann from The Morning Night at a show with both groups on the bill. This led to him joining the group in 2013 touring Melbourne & Sydney just after the release of the groups 'Amberola' album.

Radio In Motion, a pop rock duo with Danni Ammon was formed approximately the same time his power pop trio The Bitter Grins started in 2014. Both groups played regularly over the next year before disbanding. The following year he recorded his first album 'The Big Get Even' at Scudley Records playing drums, guitar & singing lead vocals. The album was co-produced by Peter Renzullo & Salv. Adrian Hoffmann & Michael Savage from The Morning Night also feature on the album with additional backing vocals from Danni Ammon who would leave shortly after to take up residence in the US. Since the disbanding of The Morning Night in 2015, Salv played drums on Marley Wynn's solo album '25 Bruised Boysenberry Ave' produced by Ricky Maymi (Brian Jonestown Massacre) who also produced 'Otis' & 'Amberola' by The Morning Night.

The Bitter Grins final show was the Rock 'n Ruin album launch in August 2016. He recorded his new album 'Travel Light Hurt Inside' in Burbank, Los Angeles, January 2017. He also worked on Danni Ammon's forthcoming album 'April Plans'. Both were recorded simultaneously over 7 weeks. 'Travel Light Hurt Inside' will be released in 2018.
